JCC Has A Fitness Program and Specials Just For You!

Every day when I arrive at the JCC, I am delighted by the number of people joining our fitness classes and enjoying the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. I am happy to be a part of the excitement here, and want to tell you about a few of the classes and programs we have lined up for this summer, beginning this month. For instance:

  • The Fitness Center is offering 2 new basic level yoga classes. The first is "Gentle Yoga," a 45-minute class held on Wednesday mornings at 10:30, led by me. This class is perfect for those who are just beginning their yoga journey or for those who prefer a slower, gentler form of yoga. The focus of this class is on breathing, core strength and stability and stretching. It is not for those who have restricted mobility or for those who cannot get up and down from the floor easily. This class is free for Health Center members and $6 for general members.
  • The second new Yoga offering is Hatha Yoga, a 90-minute program class led by Ann Gulick on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. Because the class is more instructional in nature, there is a cost of $60 for Health Center Members and $85 for General Members. A minimum of 6 participants is required in order to offer the class, which will start on June 17. Ann has been a Hatha Yoga instructor for more than 30 years. Hatha is among the more gentle forms of yoga and the focus is on opening the spine and improving circulation to the spinal cord.
  • A new Fencing session starts June 3 and runs until July 8. Cost is $100 for members and $130 for non-members. Classes will be on Wednesdays from 6 to 7, and from 7 to 8 p.m. To register, click here.
  • Israeli Folk Dance classes also are available on Monday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m. Our instructor are Neev and Noga Granite, who grew up in Israel, have an extensive Folk Dance background and also teach Israeli Folk Dance at OSU's Hillel Center. The cost for classes is $6 per class for members and $10 for non-members. Multi-class passes are available.

Also, in June, as a token of how much we appreciate our members, all mind/body classes (except Hatha Yoga) will be free for all members! Try Pilates, Ashtanga Yoga, Vinyasa Flow Yoga or Gentle Yoga free of charge for the entire month of June!

Members, would you like to receive the most current and up to date schedules, program information and updates (all the while being environmentally conscious)? If so, sign up for our Fitness Department email list. Members can designate areas of interest so that they receive only the information they are likely to use.

Please Note Group Exercise Changes

Just as a reminder, please read the June Group Exercise schedule carefully, as there are several changes, including:

  • We have added a 6 a.m. Spin-to-Yoga class on Fridays with me (for all of you early birds)>
  • The Monday night Zumba class has moved to Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.

In Kinesis News...

Golfers, would you like to improve your game and your fitness in only 45 minutes? Try our Kinesis for Golfers training! Offered by Tyler Schroeder, Certified Personal Trainer and Golf Instructor, this programming is designed to help strength, flexibility and overall fitness. Sign up to try a session free on either June 2 ay 6pm or June 5 at 6:15 a.m.

In addition, we have added several new formats to our Kinesis training schedule! If you did not have a chance to try one the last week of May, please let me know, and I'll be happy to schedule one for you!

Also, do you have a small group of 3 or more who would like to train together in the Kinesis Studio? Name your time, and for as little as $15 per person for a 45-minute session, your group can work with a certified Kinesis Personal Trainer. Kinesis is cutting edge equipment designed to do the most for your body in the least amount of time.

Remember, if you are pressed for time, and you would like to work with a personal trainer for less $$, then try a Kinesis Training session! Kinesis burns 30 percent more calories in the same period of time as standard weight equipment does.
