It's not every day that the JCC receives a present from half-way around the world, but this one was made even more special by the fact that it came from one of its own staff members who currently is in Iraq.
Staff Sgt. Phil Sobers, who is serving with the U.S. Air Force Reserves at Kirkuk Airbase north of Baghdad, is the JCC's Aquatics Director. Not long after Sobers received his Iraqi campaign medal, he sent a U.S. flag that was flown during a combat mission on July 10 to the JCC.
In the top photo, JCC Executive Director Carol Folkerth (holding flag) is surrounded by JCC summer campers and counselors as they wave their thanks to Sobers for the gift. The children were especially thrilled to see a photo of the OH-58D "Kiowa Warrior" helicopter that flew the flag during the mission.
