two age appropriate units-Dagim (fish) for
3-4 year olds and Olim (moving up) for
kindergartners and 1st graders.
- Camp Shemesh accommodates flexible
schedules.
Campers can choose to attend 3 or 5 days of
camp per week for a minimum of 4 weeks. For
added flexibility, Dagim campers can choose
between a full and half day option!
- Camp Shemesh campers participate in swim
lessons 3 times a week. Campers are
bused to the JCC’s Camp Hoover pool (just 10
minutes away) for swim lessons. Lessons are
taught by certified water safety
instructors.
- Each day is filled with fun outdoor and
indoor activities. Indoor time includes
playtime in the gymnasium and classrooms.
Typical daily activities for all campers
include all-camp openings with lots of
singing and ruach (spirit), and specialties
such as nature, music, sports, arts and
crafts, Judaics and Israeli Culture. Olim
campers also participate in daily chugim
(special interest activities), a dance
specialty and two late nights throughout the
summer.
- Weekly Special Events!
Events are varied according to fun and
exciting weekly themes. Special events
include a visit by the Bug Man, a Camp
Shemesh Carnival and a spot in the New
Albany Fourth of July parade! Camp Shemesh
campers also participate in dress up days
such as Pajama Day, Crazy Hat Day, Super
Hero Day and much more!
- 6:1 camper to staff ratio provides each
camper with individual adult supervision and
attention. Staff are skilled in early
childhood education and are seasoned
counselors. The Olim campers even have an
Israeli Shlicha to round out their camp
staff.
