Specialty Camps at JCC College Avenue

Campers involved in Sports Camps the week of
June 12-16 have two options – stay at camp for
half a day or bring a lunch, stay all day, and
participate in two different Sports Camps!
From June 26 - August 4, Specialty Camp campers
participate in a specialty of their choice in
the morning and join Camp Chaverim campers each
afternoon. An afternoon of fun at Camp Chaverim
includes free swim, themed special events and
activities, traditional camp activities such as
Judaics, Sports, Music, Art, Israeli Culture,
Nature, and much more!
Skyhawks, a youth sport organization, leads
several of the sports camps. Skyhawks has served
over 800,000 children countrywide since 1979.

Pre-Camp Options:
- Summer Kickoff Camp (June 12-16),
Campers entering Kindergarten - 8th grade
Kick off your summer with FUN fieldtrips
around Columbus. We’ll go on a different
field trip each day plus we’ll swim and play
camp games. Field trips include a new indoor
water park called H2 Oasis, Olentangy Indian
Caverns, Bowling, Graeter’s, Orange Township
Pool, and Galaxy Games and Golf. Sign up by
the day or for the whole week! Before and
aftercare are available during Summer
Kickoff Camp for an additional fee.
- Skateboarding Camp (June 12-16),
Grades K-3, 9 a.m. - noon, Grades 4-8, 1
p.m. - 4 p.m.
A fun and exciting camp where campers learn
balance and pushing with the skateboards.
Special age appropriate tricks with ramps
and rails are taught. All safety equipment
is supplied. Campers need to bring
skateboards, and each camper receives a
t-shirt. Skyhawks runs this camp.
- Tennis Camp (June 12-16),
Grades 4-8, 9 a.m. - noon
Led by Pam Lippy, USTA Pro and JCC Tennis
Instructor, campers work on footwork and
tennis strokes and work on skills with fun
games and single and doubles competition.
Every camper needs to bring a racquet.
- Swimming Camp (June 12-16),
Grades K-3, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Spend the afternoon poolside while learning
a variety of competitive strokes and diving
from JCC Aquatics Director David Wolf and
other JCC staff. Every camper needs a swim
suit and a towel.
Specialty Camps:
- Multi Sports Camp (June 26 – 30)
Play a variety of sports like baseball,
soccer and basketball during this fast-paced
and fun camp. Campers learn basic skills
through structured exercises and fun games.
Multi-Sport participants receive a sports
ball, and a camp t-shirt. Skyhawks runs this
camp.
- Campers in the Kitchen (July 3,
5, 6, 7)
Calling all future chefs! Campers learn how
to cook a variety of Kosher meals, snacks
and desserts, plus learn kitchen and cooking
safety and the FUNdamentals of cooking! At
the end of the week parents are invited to a
lunch in which all food is prepared by the
Campers in the Kitchen. All chefs receive a
cookbook and apron.
- Lacrosse Camp (July 3, 5, 6, 7)
Fun skill building activities help campers
improve stick handling, cradling, passing,
shooting, and defensive skills. This program
is non-contact and skill based. Safety
equipment is provided. Please bring lacrosse
equipment if you have it-otherwise it will
be provided. Lacrosse Camp is led by
Skyhawks.
- Art Camp (July 10-14)
Join Nancy Rosen for a trip around the
world! Each day, we’ll travel to a different
country and make an art project from that
country. Projects include paper making in
Egypt and batiquing in India, plus projects
in Spain, Israel and Australia! What a
fun way to spend the week!
- Columbus Crew Soccer Camp (July 10-14)
Improve your soccer skills with help from
the best soccer players around – the
Columbus Crew! Learn to dribble, pass and
shoot the ball and learn how to defend the
goal through soccer skill games and
scrimmages. Participants are required to
wear shin guards.
- Theatre Camp (July 17-21)
Spend the week learning games actors use to
warm up, while learning about the different
people who work in a theatre – then act in a
show performed for parents and the rest of
camp! Learn from one of the best - Jonathan
Barnes, a recent graduate of The Ohio State
University and frequent performer in Gallery
Players productions at the JCC!
- Pat Noles Basketball Camp (July 17-21)
Learn the fundamentals of basketball - ball
handling, dribbling, passing, shooting and
defense. By using lowered rims and youth
sized basketballs, every camper is a star.
Pat Noles is a former Otterbein basketball
player and current JCC Youth Sports
Instructor.
- Pat Noles Flag Football Camp (July
24-28)
Learn the proper techniques of throwing,
catching and running with the football
through fun skill games and scrimmages.
- Cheerleading and Tumbling Camp (July
24-28)
After learning somersaults, cartwheels and
balance beam tricks, campers will fly
through the air in no time! Campers also
learn cheers, chants, proper cheering
motions and jumping techniques. Skyhawks
runs this camp.
- Magic Camp (July 31-August 4)
Learn great magic tricks from “The Magic
Man,” Carroll Baker, a regular performer at
Max & Erma’s restaurants and the magician
from Circus Camp and after school enrichment
classes. A fantastic introduction to magic
and the art of illusion and trickery!
Campers focus on tricks from famous Jewish
Magicians and show off their new skills in
their very own magic show at the end of the
week! Every camper receives a magic kit to
take home that includes a magic wand to help
with mini-illusions. No prior magic
experience necessary and all magic tricks
are new! Magic Camp has a minimum of 10
campers!
- Tennis Camp (July 31-August 4)
Spend time on the tennis court and learn
basic tennis strokes and footwork, play fun
tennis games and participate in single and
double tennis competition. Campers are
required to bring their own tennis racquet.

- Columbus Safari Camp (August
14-18), Campers entering Kindergarten-8th
grade
Don’t let your kids get caught with nothing
to do at the end of the summer. Let them
spend it on a safari! Safari campers
participate in a fun and exciting field trip
each day including: Super Games, Columbus
Zoo, Graeter’s, private movie screening,
Homestead Park and Magic Mountain. After
each field trip campers swim and take
advantage of the JCC’s campgrounds. Sign up
by the day or for the whole week! Before and
aftercare are available during Safari Camp
for an additional fee.
